For sizing, I would use the waist recommendation shown on the tag ( 22" - 24" ).
These were the top of the line model when then came out, so they have a lot of extra padding in them compared to the lower end models.
The back protector is also pretty beefy for better protection as well.
Has the waist zipper that extends the length by 1 inch for taller kids.
